Kandathippili rasam

Kandathippili - I never tasted it before or even had it in any form. My friend gave this to me. So I tried doing this rasam. It was like an ordinary rasam except with some Ayurvedic flavor.

Kandathippili  is considered as a medicinal food in India. It is a kind of pepper so it helps to prevent cold, sore throat, body pain and for indigestion. If you don't have this stick, do the same process leaving the stick for plain rasam or by using rasam powder.

 Ingredients:
  • Pepper - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • Red chilly - 2
  • Kandathippili - a small stick
  • Tamarind - lemon sized ball
  • Tomato - 1
  • Cooked toor dal - 1/4 cup

Method:

In a tsp of oil, roast the pepper, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, red chilly and kandathippili. After it cools down, grind to a fine powder.
In a bowl extract the water from tamarind. Add the chopped tomatoes, salt. Let it boil with cilantro, roasted powder.

Let it boil for 5 minutes. Add the cooked toor dal mixed with water and let it boil for 2 minutes. Switch it off and close immediately. Then season with mustard seeds, cumin and curry leaves.
Serve with potato fry, a yum combo.

I used the glass bowl to show the color of rasam :)
