Chickpeas pilaf (chana pulao)

At our home we all love this white legume. This is very simple to do and a protein rich food and perfect for lunch boxes. We love chickpeas in any form like chana masala, salad, pulao,..

You can add any veggies of your choice or can be prepared without veggies too. For color I added bell peppers. If you are using canned beans, you can prepare it very soon.

Ingredients:
  • Chickpeas - 1 cup
  • Basmati rice - 2 cups
  • Onion - 2 sliced
  • Bell pepper (red,green) - 1/2 cup, chopped
  • Tomato - 2
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Coconut - 1 tbsp
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Salt - to taste
 To temper :
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon - 1 small stick
  • Cardamon - 1

 Method:

Soak chickpeas overnight and pressure cook with salt. If you are using canned beans wash it before use. Grind coconut, tomatoes and red chilly powder. Keep aside. Cook rice separately.

In a wok, add the ingredients given to temper in the same order. Then add onions,ginger-garlic paste. Add chopped bell peppers, after it is cooked add the ground paste of tomatoes, adjust the salt.

Let it boil till the raw smell goes. Then add chickpeas and cooked rice. Give a nice stir on high flame and simmer for 5 minutes. Serve with cucumber raitha or natural yogurt or chips.
