Ring murukku

I had this ring murukku in 'To do' list for Diwali. I and my sisters used to put this murukku in all our fingers and we eat this (Old golden days). If you don't have murukku press, but eager for preparing Diwali snacks you can try this. No need of any mould. Very easy to prepare. Making rings take time.

 Ingredients:

  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Yellow Moong dal - 1.5 tbsp
  • Sesame seed - 1 tsp
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - to deep fry

Method:

Soak the moong dal for one hour. Boil the water in a wide pan, add soaked moong dal, salt, oil and rice flour and switch it off. Cover with the lid and let it rest for 15 minutes or till it cools down.

Combine red chilly powder, sesame seeds in the flour and give a nice stir with the help of oily hands. Make into small threads.

Combine the 2 ends to form a ring. Cover the rings in the wet cloth or close with the cover, preventing from dryness. Heat a small wok with oil. Drop the rings carefully on high heat. After the rings raises up reduce to medium flame and fry it.
Strain in the paper towel.

Note:
  • Melted butter or ghee can be used to mix in the flour instead of oil.
