Black bean patty burger

If patties are ready even the kids can play around in arranging their own burger.  Do it in your own creative way to arrange the burger. Basil pesto sauce can also be added, The tangy yogurt sauce gives a wonderful rich taste for burgers. Since the patties are baked , it suits for dietary needs which has good source of fiber.

Ingredients:

For patties:

  • Black bean - 3/4 cup
  • Carrot - 1/4 cup (grated)
  • Bell pepper - 1/4 cup (choppped)
  • Onion - 1/4 cup (chopped)
  • Garlic - 2 tbsp (chopped)
  • Bread crumbs or panko bread crumbs - 1/4 cup
  • Olive oil - 2 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup or sauce - 2 tbsp
  • Chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 2 tsp
  • Salt - as per taste

Method:

Soak the black bean overnite and pressure cook in simmer for 15 minutes after one whistle. After it cools down keep it aside. Cut the veggies very finely.

Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, bell peppers and carrots. Saute for 5 minutes or until softened. Add Cumin powder, red chilly powder, ketchup and salt. Stir to combine.

After the bean and veggies have cooled down, mash it with the help of potato masher or using a blender pulse the beans. Mix bread crumbs in it.

Form the mixture into 4 or 5 large patties. Place them in a baking sheet and coat each sides with little olive oil and bake for 15 minutes at 450 deg F. Though they all form together they will be mushy. So handle it carefully and place them in burger.

For Burger :
  • Bean patty - 1
  • Onion - 1 slice
  • Tomato - 2 slices
  • Cucumber ranch - 2 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup - 1 tbsp
  • Olives - few, pitted and sliced
  • Cucumber or cucumber pickle - 1 slice

How to arrange:

Heat the burger on both sides. Slice the veggies. Apply cucumber ranch on one side  of the burger and tomato ketchup on the other burger slice

Arrange patties, onion , tomato, pickles and olives on the ranch part and top with other part of the burger.

The patty in the above picture is store bought. Just for clicks :)

Variations:

  • Black bean can be replaced with rajma too. Adding veggies in patties is optional.
  • If you want more spice add pepper and salt. Choose your own veggies like lettuce, mushroom, bell peppers or spinach to top the burgers.
